Hi Everyone!

Today’s post is by the lovely Yasmin. Yasmin is an undergrad psychology student at UC Irvine she also has a humble blog of her own, Islam and Everyday Life, the link to her blog is below! In this guest post, she is discussing the benefits and uses of Coconut oil! I love coconut oil and use it myself with a mix of other indian oils very often!

Let’s get into her post!

Hi Everyone!

Hope you’re all doing well! As ladies we have all had our fair share of bad hair days. However, lately I have been having a bad hair day like every day.

Basically, I have been suffering from somewhat dry and very frizzy hair. My hair wasn’t always like this. However, looking back I realize that my hair may have become this way because I haven’t been applying hair conditioner to my hair for the past two or three years. Of course, this is a big hair no-no because applying some sort of conditioner is key to healthy hair.

Without digressing, I didn’t apply hair conditioner because I have naturally oily hair and I didn’t want my hair to get too oily too fast after taking a shower, But of course, this was false thinking on my part.

Anyways, after doing a bit of research and asking around I realized that coconut oil is very helpful in achieving healthy, shiny and frizz free hair.

IMG_2587 (1)Coconut oil is an all-natural oil that has been used both internally and externally for thousands of years. Of course, many people from the Indian sub-continent, at least partially, attribute their luscious locks to coconut oil. In fact, the gorgeous Priyanka Chopra swears by this oil.

Hair Benefits of Coconut Oil:

Strengthens hair strands

Adds shine to the hair

In those with hair loss it can stimulate the regrowth of hair because it’s able to reach the deep

level of the scalp

Fights Frizz by moisturizing hair

Fights Dandruff

Plus, the great thing about it is that it’s an all-natural product with no harmful ingredients

How to use coconut oil:

It’s best to purchase virgin cold pressed coconut oil which can be easily found at your local grocery store.

Depending on the temperature of your home the oil will be either a solid or liquid. Don’t worry it works fine in both states.

Make sure that you’re wearing something that you don’t mind getting dirty because it can get a little messy!

All you have to do is massage the oil onto your scalp and work your way throughout your hair. If you want your hair to become thicker over time make sure to really message the oil onto your scalp for a good ten minutes. This massaging will enhance the blood circulation to your scalp and this along with the nutrients of the coconut oil will thicken your hair over time.

Make sure that you have applied the oil to all parts of your hair. Ladies make sure your hair is practically drenched in oil.

Once you are done applying the oil put your hair up and let it sit for an hour or two hours before taking a shower.

However, for best results it’s best to leave it on overnight. You can put on a towel or shower cap to avoid getting your pillow dirty. Or you can put a towel on your pillow and sleep on it.

Caution: While this treatment works for many people including myself it may not work for you. Coconut oil interacts with Keratin products so do not use this treatment if you are currently using keratin products on your hair.

For best results use this treatment once a week. Also, be patient it may take quite a few months to see all of the benefits of this treatment.

Hope this was helpful!!!

Thanks for the comment 🙂 Yes Keratin and Coconut oil can have a negative interaction when used at the same time leading to very dry hair!
